I Just Received Christ

New Christian friend:

Praise the Lord! You have become a child in God’s family and we are excited about helping you grow in Jesus Christ and find out what He would have for your life in the future. Please consider the following aspects of your new relationship with Christ.

1. The Bible teaches that once you have received Jesus Christ as Savior that you have ETERNAL LIFE in Him. Jesus said in John 10:28, “And I give unto them eternal life they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” Romans 8:38-39, says that nothing can separate us from God’s love. Your eternal life in Christ never stops.

2. Acts 10:48, says that Jesus “commanded them to be BAPTIZED in the name of the Lord. In Acts 8:35-39, the first thing this new believer did when he received Jesus was to be baptized. Baptism does not save. It is merely a picture of the salvation that one has just received. The only condition for baptism is found in Acts 8:37, “if thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.” Baptism is a picture of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Baptism is a picture of our being buried in the likeness of His death and being raised in the likeness of His resurrection.

3. Ephesians 5:25 states that Jesus “loved the church and gave Himself for it.” If Jesus loved the church that much, He considers it very important. Now that you have Jesus Christ as your Savior, you should become part of a church that proclaims and practices the Bible. Hebrews 10:25, says that we should “not forsake the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another and so much the more as ye see the day (of Christ’s Return) approaching.”

4. Now that you have a new relationship with Jesus, you need to talk with Him daily in PRAYER. Prayer is talking with God, asking Him for things and receiving answers from Him. Matthew 7: 7-11 mentions things that God promises to those who talk with Him in prayer.

5. In addition to talking with God in prayer each day, you should have a time each day when you read God’s Word, the Bible. I Peter 2:2 gives that reason for this. “As newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the Word that ye may grow thereby.” You need a daily diet of the Word of God to grow spiritually. Apart from this daily diet, you will become weak, spiritually, as anyone would, physically, if they never ate physical food.

6. Lastly, you should begin to share with others what Jesus has done for you. This is called being a WITNESS for Christ. Acts 1:8 says, “and ye shall be witnesses unto me … unto the uttermost parts of the earth.” Others who do not know the forgiveness that Jesus Christ can bring need to hear of His love. There are many with whom you can share His love. You now have the privilege of being His spokesman on this earth.
